Background Information – Criminal Case:
On August 24th, 2021, our client Shannon Joy attended a school board meeting in the Fairport Central School District, and during her attendance, despite the fact that she was wearing a face mask in accordance with the request of the Fairport School District, she was targeted by members of the school board who declared that her mask had slid below her nose on a few occasions and thus was not being properly worn. At that point, the school board meeting was disrupted and police were contacted and subsequently arrived forcefully pulling Shannon from her seat and physically removing her from the building in front of all in attendance. Shannon was placed in handcuffs and processed for a trespassing violation. This charge did not stand as members of the Monroe County District Attorneys’ office dismissed the charge in the interest of justice at the first court appearance.
