Tiveron Law’s new building (and its interior office space) will be one of the first commercial LEED certified office buildings in Western New York. “LEED “stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design. The design and construction of the building will be rated in seven different categories: Sustainable Sites, Water Efficiency, Energy and Atmosphere, Materials and Resources, Indoor Environmental Quality, Innovation in Design, and Regional Priority.
These categories award points (and therefore encouragement) for doing things like installing bike storage and changing rooms to encourage biking to work, harvesting rain water to be used at a later date to water the landscape, using bamboo (a rapidly renewable resource) and recycled products in the construction.. Another good idea is to use products constructed within 500 miles of the project which help to reduce the environmental impact of transportation.
LEED certification is voluntary and will not necessarily result in reduced costs or ongoing expenses, but its goals make so much sense that we encourage all our clients (including those considering building a new residence) to look into these new practices and ideas.
